Why Free Education Is Not an Answer.

Many people believe that having FREE education is GOOD. But few realize the danger regarding free stuff.

Now, before anybody starts having a bad idea – I DO SUPPORT FREE EDUCATION – but on a different way…

You see, nowadays, people DEMAND that education must be cheap and it must be offered free for all the people. But to tell you the TRUTH, even if education is free… people will just abuse it or sometimes, use it against their benefactors. Most of the time, even if you are given free education, you still have a difficult path to success because of the entitlement one receives when getting free education – everything must be free, without any liability, and expect life will be EASY.

However this is usually not the case. Often students go to either to a wrong degree, or a wrong crowd within a college even if they passed their scholarship exams – later, they will feel failed by the people around them because, well… they think that people or even the government is the one at fault at their FREE education. And Oh! don’t start me also about “what if they failed in class?” because that means no more free education.

Free is good, but often free stuff (even education) are often laced with with a catch; sometimes they involve agreements, or serving  with a prolonged period of time to the government – following the benefactor’s rules. Problem is, students often follow this on the first few months to a year until of course, they become disillusioned with the word free. Mix these students up with groups with political agendas, or even lower living standard… and you got yourself a real “educated” problem. An angry student who think she/he is entitled for a life full of reward having things for FREE.

Just look at other state owned colleges; they often have students who fall on the category of students whose only practice of “right” is biting the fingers of the one who gave them a free education i.e. the Government. If this is not an example enough that providing free education is not the way… then I don’t know what is. Though as what it seems, I do support free education, but on a different term.

You see, if education also is NOT FREE; well… then people who deserve to get free education, will probably suffer by having their talents and skills tarnish and rot within the confines of their financial and educational problems. That’s why I wrote on my book “Polymath’s Profit” – I keep telling people that, it is not EDUCATION that is the problem within our society… but  PROPER Education is!

If only we could teach students (regardless if its free or not) on how to become financially stable – then students will not have to go for a college just so that they “earn a degree”, but also use the college to connect with the right crowd, and the right education that will prosper them to success. Because eventually, when they realize that they don’t have money… and money is also scarce even with a degree; atleast they’ll be ready to face tommorow without financial difficulty. Teach them how to invest, how to save money… how to start raising money for their education, NOT FOR FREE. Doing this, we might prevent even students to go to the wrong crowd – it’s a win/win both for the students and the government who provides education.

I believe that we must provide education for the sake of educating success, rather than just giving it as an amenity because somebody passed a scholarship exam or because of affiliation.

We must educate our future students about the right way to  live in harmony with people, all the while giving them chance to create a future where they have to use their talents to create a livelihood for their families or loved ones – not an opportunity to STRIKE and fight the government, whose only fault is to give the students what they deserved – free education.

Unless of course, it is a PRIVATE UNIVERSITY… then, you gotta remember education is also a Business. You gotta pay for a premium amount of education. But then again… free education is not answer per se for a successful life.
