How to Use References to Get a Job in the Philippines

On our “UN/EMPLOYED” series, we will discuss how to properly use references to get a job in the Philippines. As my ebook “Living Successfully in the Philippines” – references could either mean your success or your failure to receive a career, because that is one aspect of  “The System” in the Philippines.

What is a Reference?

Character references or just reference is a crucial part on your credibility to apply for any jobs or position in the Philippines. Often, this is neglected by the fresh graduates due to their inability to experience the real world with the real people – on a real job.

Reference Matters (The Most)

If you will not provide a proper reference, then than will only look bad on your resume. Reference is not just anything, if not, it is almost everything here in the Philippines (or in any other country). So , no mediocre reference like your family members unless they are elite members of society or reference with jobs that doesn’t apply with yours.

Also, if you provide a reference on which you have a bad reputation, then that could deny you your opportunity for employment.

However, if you provide a reference where you are exemplified as valuable, commendable, or honorable – then that could mean everything on your resume. After all, who would hire a genius if they can’t be dealt with? Think about Nikola Tesla.

Real World, Real Experience, Real People.

On the field of never ending career advancement, such references can do wonders on your success – unless it impacts your progress due to your doing – still, references could even establish future connection that could be crucial to your acceptance on a job or even PROMOTION.

That’s why references could also be known as “connections” with the real people involved within the confines of a real business. Your education, awards, even progression are just an icing in the cake – your real “badge of Honor” is actually your  hard earned evaluations and credibility from your circle of references/connections.

That’s why on my Ebook “Living Successfully in the Philippines” – such connections are necessary for the establishment of your success. Nobody gets rich or successful in this life without connections. Work on that reference, be the best employee they could have, and one day you’ll even have your own company – I promise, the universe and God will make the way.
